Planning a Team Offsite in Medellin: The 2026 Playbook

Published September 3, 2026

Medellin makes sense as an offsite city for a specific reason: a lot of companies already have people here. Globant, EPAM, and Endava run large Colombian operations, and hundreds of US startups have engineering teams in Medellin and Bogota. The offsite is often the first time the US side and the Colombian side are in the same room. Add an airport forty five to sixty minutes from Poblado, a time zone aligned with US Eastern, spring weather year round, and costs that make a three-night program plausible on a startup budget.

This playbook is for the People or ops lead, or the founder, who got handed a twenty to eighty person offsite and needs it to work.

The shape

Arrival day. One and a half to two working days. One activity day. Departure. Three nights is the standard. The pattern that works best in Medellin splits the venue: working sessions at a hotel meeting floor or a business center in Poblado, and the activity day at a finca or out in the Oriente. Trying to run the working sessions at the finca is where offsites here go wrong.

The venue decision tree

Hotel, Poblado. InterContinental (Salon Antioquia takes one hundred to five hundred), Marriott, NH Collection Royal, Diez (up to about two hundred twenty), Park 10 (conference to about one hundred thirty), Four Points (largest room three hundred theater or two hundred ten banquet), and Binn (fifteenth-floor salon thirty to one hundred, and the only one on this list that publishes its A/V specs). One address for sessions, rooms, and the bar. Factura is standard.

Business center. Centro Empresarial El Poblado, run by the Camara de Comercio, has a six hundred seat auditorium that partitions to ninety, one hundred twenty, or one hundred fifty, eight training rooms, and a terrace for one hundred thirty. It published a 2026 tariff: COP 8.5 million for the full-day auditorium and COP 5.3 million for the terrace. The team sleeps at a nearby hotel. This is the most transparent corporate booking in the city.

Oriente hacienda. Riojana (three spaces, up to two hundred fifty), Fizebad (four rooms of about one hundred each), Aguas Claras (large full-service finca in the Norte). Beautiful, and the right place for the activity day and the closing dinner. Wifi and invoicing must be verified property by property before you put a working session there.

The three things that break offsites in Medellin

Wifi. Every venue says it has wifi. The question is whether forty laptops on a video call survive it. Rural fincas run on a residential plan or a Starlink. Hotel salons vary by floor. We mark wifi and A/V as verified only where we have seen published specs or checked it ourselves; everything else is ask, and we confirm before introduction.

The factura. Hotels and registered event companies issue a factura electronica a US finance team will accept. Many rural fincas are personas naturales or informal rentals and cannot. Book those through a registered operator or accept that the expense will be a fight. There is a full article on this.

Transport and terrain. Llanogrande is thirty minutes from the airport and an hour from Poblado at rush. Santa Elena is cold after dark. Afternoon rain in April, May, and September through November moves outdoor sessions inside. Contract the bus, plan the rain, brief the altitude.

Activities that scale to 20 to 80

Comuna 13 with a registered agency (do not send eighty people with an unlicensed guide). Coffee farm visits in the Oriente or Santa Elena. A Guatape day trip with the boat and the Piedra. Paragliding at San Felix, which is weather-bound and needs staging for a group. Cooking classes. Football at a local cancha or an Atanasio Girardot tour. Group rates are quoted per departure and most operators pay a referral, which is how we are paid.

Timing

January through March is the offsite season for US fiscal Q1 kickoffs. February through June and August through November are the general corporate windows. Avoid Holy Week, Christmas through mid-January, and Feria de las Flores in late July and early August, which often overlaps Colombiamoda and takes every hotel room in Poblado.

Budget

A local MICE operator publishes an indicative USD 1,300 to 2,300 per person for a three-day five-star package. Treat that as a ceiling reference, not a quote. Finca night rates run USD 150 to 800 for small and mid properties and USD 500 to 1,200 for premium estates that sleep forty to eighty, per operator-published ranges.

Bureau de Medellin

The Greater Medellin Convention and Visitors Bureau captures association congresses and citywide events for its member hotels. It is not built for a thirty-person startup offsite that needs one finca, three breakouts, and a coffee farm on Thursday. That job is done by hotel sales managers, boutique DMCs, and us.

Next step

Send us headcount, nights, dates, whether you need a factura, and whether the sessions are working sessions or presentations. We come back with a hotel or business center for the sessions and a finca or activity for the day out, with wifi and invoicing confirmed.
