What a 40th Birthday Weekend in Medellin Costs in USD
These are two illustrative builds, not quotes. They use the venue and vendor anchors we have from 2026 sources, converted at roughly COP 3,160 per US dollar, and they flag every number that is an estimate. Your real number depends on the date, the property, and how hard you go on the bar.
The scenario for both: thirty guests, three nights, Friday welcome dinner, Saturday main event, Sunday brunch.
Build one: hotel-based, Poblado
Saturday event. A rooftop or salon at a hotel like Binn, Diez, or NH Collection Royal. Hotel banquet menus in this city run roughly COP 55,000 to 180,000 per guest depending on the property and the menu, which is about USD 17 to 57 per head at current rates. For thirty guests that is USD 500 to 1,700 on food before the bar. Open bar is a separate negotiation and often the largest single line. Expect a food and beverage minimum rather than a room rental fee.
Friday dinner. A restaurant buyout or a large reservation in Provenza or Laureles. Budget per head; upscale Medellin dinner with wine runs well under what the same table costs in Miami.
Rooms. Guests book their own, ideally on a group block rate the hotel gives you for twenty-plus rooms. This moves the largest cost off your budget and onto theirs.
Transport. Minimal. Airport transfers are the only real line.
Illustrative all-in for the host: USD 4,000 to 9,000 covering Saturday food and bar, Friday dinner, a DJ, and photography. Estimate.
Build two: finca weekend, Oriente or Norte
The property. A premium estate that sleeps most of the group runs an indicative USD 500 to 1,200 per night in operator-published 2026 ranges. Three nights is USD 1,500 to 3,600. Smaller fincas run USD 150 to 800 per night. These are operator ranges, not a city index; specific properties will quote above and below.
Food. A private chef or a caterer for three days. Local catering in the USD 35 to 80 per person per meal band is the working assumption from our wedding research. Six meals for thirty people at the low end is real money; this is where finca weekends get expensive.
Transport. A contracted bus from the airport or a Poblado meeting point to the finca and back, plus any excursion. This is a real line, not an afterthought. Guests cannot Uber out of Llanogrande at midnight.
The Saturday. DJ, lighting, decor, a bar, and heaters if the property is in the hills. Prices vary widely by vendor; get quotes.
Illustrative all-in for the host: USD 8,000 to 20,000 depending on the estate, the chef, and the production. Estimate. The host usually carries more of this than in the hotel build because the property is the lodging.
Component anchors
Photography for a full day runs USD 800 to 2,500 for a competent bilingual photographer with delivery. Hotel banquet menus: COP 55,000 to 180,000 per guest. Local catering: USD 35 to 80 per person per meal. Finca night rates: USD 150 to 1,200 depending on tier. IVA is nineteen percent and may or may not be in the number you were quoted; ask.
What the quote leaves off
Servicio and open bar. Contracted transport. Heaters for hill properties. The 4x1000 tax on your wire into Colombia. The exchange rate moving between the deposit and the balance. Feria week and December hotel compression if your date lands there.
